At the height of this year’s galaxy season, I finally captured my first image of the stunning Whirlpool Galaxy (Messier 51).

Two perfect nights in March 2025 — one under the pristine skies of Hoher List Observatory, the other at home under my suburban sky. Luminance captured on-site, RGB from home. Couldn’t be happier with the result!
As so often, this photo of the Moon was also taken at the edge of a deep-sky session-this time, for a change, with a rather thin crescent.
In March, I added luminance data to my OSC Messier 97 image from 2023. I think the result is quite impressive.
