Sky Preview

My sky for tonight: see which of my photographed objects are well placed right now and what I plan to capture next.

Month

The map shows the sky above my observatory at the selected time. Filled dots are objects I have already photographed; rings are my plans. The boxes show the field of view of my telescopes and cameras. Click an object to zoom to exactly that framing, and its name takes you to the object page with my images.

The dashed frame is my capture window, the part of the sky I can reach well from here. “Objects” lists all targets sorted by their time in that window. Anything out of season is listed below with its best month. You can change the time, date and location freely. In full screen you can also show catalogs such as Messier or Caldwell.

Make it yours: The gear icon lets you hide photographed or planned objects. There you can also set your own capture window: time, direction and minimum altitude. Top left, you can pick another location or “My location”. The sliders below set the time, day and month, and “Tonight” jumps back. When zoomed in on an object, you can switch focal length and sensor to see how it fits your own gear. In full screen, the gear icon adds catalogs, and “Objects” shows or hides the side panel. Your settings are saved only in your browser.
